Why You Need To Insulate Your Loft

Most houses that were built over 20 years ago have little to no loft insulation. A quarter of the heat used to warm your home is lost through the roof, but you can combat this by making sure your loft has enough insulation. The government and building industry recommend a minimum depth of 270mm, and all new houses must have this as a minimum according to industry standards. This will save one tonne of carbon dioxide a year, and hundreds of pounds in heating costs for your home according to the Energy Saving Trust.

270mm – 300mm is the optimum depth for loft insulation, and modern insulation out perform older types many times over, also insulation does degrade over time, so it is worth checking the condition and depth of your loft insulation as you may be losing up to 25% of your heat through your ceiling! And that is no joke with energy prices being what there are today and rising!

You could also consider some other energy saving measures. Why not look into:

  • Installing double glazing around your home

  • Replacing your conservatory or lean to roof for an insulated type

  • Replacing a boiler over 15 years old with an energy efficient model

  • Draught proofing your home’s doors, windows and draughty areas

  • Insulating your floor – this involves sealing gaps and draughts between floorboards and skirting boards, and laying mineral wood insulation beneath the floorboards

Apart from boiler replacements, Eco Warm Space offers all the above insulation services, including loft insulation and boarding.

All these measures, on top of your loft insulation, will help to make your home even more energy efficient place.
